Cavotec Oil Platform Drag Chain Order Sets Company Record

Cavotec has won its largest single order in the oil and gas segment in its history. The Group is to supply, install, test and commission stainless steel drag chains as part of an extensive upgrade of a Statoil oil platform in the North Sea.

Cavotec’s customer for the project – the Gullfaks B Drilling Upgrade – is Aibel, a leading engineering, construction, upgrading and maintenance service provider in the oil, gas and renewable energy sector. Norwegian energy giant Statoil is the end customer.

Under the terms of the contract, Cavotec will manufacture and install three sets of stainless steel drag chains to replace existing drilling units on the Gullfaks B oil platform that is located in the Tampen area of the North Sea. The work is part of a larger modernisation programme that will extend the operational life of the platform to 2032.

Two of the drag chains will be assembled and mounted, and the third will be lifted into position. The Group will also deliver hoses for associated new drilling equipment.

This is one of a total of three upgrade projects recently awarded to Cavotec, where the end customer is Statoil. Cavotec has already completed work to equip production vessel Norne, and oil platforms Statfjord B and C.
