TerraSond Gets 5-Year NOAA Survey Contract

TerraSond says it has been selected by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to provide hydrographic surveying services anywhere in the U.S under a new five-year contract. Under the new contract beginning in 2015, TerraSond will provide comprehensive, modern hydrographic surveys in assigned areas to support NOAA’s nautical charting mission, which includes the updating of charts in critical areas for navigation safety.

Philippines Completes Scientific Survey in Disputed Sea

The Philippines has completed an 18-day scientific survey in the South China Sea to assess the condition of coral reefs and draw a nautical map of disputed area, a top security official said on Thursday. Two survey ships, including an advanced research vessel acquired from the United States, conducted surveys around Scarborough Shoal and on three islands, including Thitu, in the Spratly group, National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon said.

OceanTools Ltd. debuted  two new products with the revamp of its MA500 Altimeter  and launch of OceanCAM subsea camera. OceanTools recently completed a redesign of their popular MA500 Precision Altimeter. DSP electronics combined with frequency swept CHIRP technology are housed in a robust hard anodized aluminum housing rated to 3,000 meters as standard. Swedish Defense Orders More Saab Torpedos

Swedish aerospace and defense company Saab announced it has received an order from the Swedish Defense Material Organization (FMV) for the next phase of the life extension program of Torpedo 62. The order value is SEK 145 million and deliveries will take place by the end of 2023.The order includes pre-studies and engineering which incorporates subsystem prototypes for improvements of the current torpedo.“This order helps to develop a more capable torpedo system for the future.

New laser technology is allowing MBARI scientists to look into the structure of giant larvaceans–tadpole-like marine animals that are important players in ocean ecosystems. In a recent paper in Science Advances, MBARI researchers described a new method for measuring the flow of seawater through larvaceans and other gelatinous animals. Trelleborg Signs Framework Agreement with Statoil

Delta SubSea Secures New Build Olympic Delta

Delta SubSea, LLC has entered into an agreement with Olympic Shipping AS for the Olympic Delta, a newly built multipurpose subsea support and construction vessel. The Olympic Delta is a GREEN Vessel designed according to DNV class, with high focus on reduced fuel consumption, which also means lesser emission to the environment. The vessel is equipped with two Delta SubSea Schilling HD 150 HP work-class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) from DSS’s fleet.
