DEME to Use Special Drilling Tech Again as It Wins Second Major Offshore Wind Deal in France

Offshore installation firm DEME Offshore will need to deploy its special drilling technology again to install offshore wind monopiles at an offshore wind farm in France, due to rough ocean conditions and a rocky seabed. The company recently secured two deals for the transportation and installation contracts for the foundations and the offshore substation for the Yeu and Noirmoutier islands’ offshore wind farm. For DEME this is the second major offshore wind farm project in France following groundbreaking solutions and industry-first technology deployed at Saint-Nazaire.DEME Offshore

, but more flexible and dynamic systems are needed to get deeper cores more easily than can be done today. It’s developing a system called Flexicore together with Seabed Solutions (co-founded the Hans Petter Klohs, who founded ADEPTH). It’s a subsea core drill unit, based on land-based drilling technology modified for deep sea operations. The first unit will be developed for operations down to 200m initially, but it will in future be able to go deeper, she says. The system is being designed to drill on challenging terrain, at 20-30 degrees, and to drill at an angle, in order to assess out crops

Enhanced Drilling Tech for Vår Energi's Ops Offshore Norway

Norwegian oil and gas company Vår Energi has signed a framework agreement with drilling equipment firm Enhanced Drilling.Under the agreement, Enhanced Drilling will provide Vår Energi with its Cutting Transportation System (CTS) and Riserless Mud Recovery (RMR) services on Vår Energi operated fields.According to Enhanced Drilling, headquartered in Straume just outside of Bergen, Norway, the RMR system ensures all mud and cuttings are returned to the rig, with zero discharge to the sea. "The result is a safer and more stable top-hole, drilled with minimal environmental impact.

in the deep sea, under the mandate given by the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. The Mohn Ridge is an oceanic spreading ridge that separates two tectonic plates. The objective of the expedition was to investigate under the seabed by drilling shallow boreholes in the mineral fields, and to test the drilling technology in these vast ocean depths. Island Valliant - Credit: Island Offshore - Photographer:Glyn LewisDuring the project, in which several firsts were achieved, operator TIOS drilled in 3000 metres of water to secure samples of mineral deposits. According to NPD, several mineral deposits

Record-size US Offshore Oil Lease Sale Draws Modest Bidding

, including majors Royal Dutch Shell Plc , BP Plc, Chevron Corp, and Total SA , had placed 159 bids on 148 blocks.   But critics of the administration called the unusually large lease sale ill-timed. U.S. crude oil and natural gas output is already smashing records thanks to improved drilling technology that has opened up cheaper onshore reservoirs, and Brazil and Mexico are also competing for drilling investment in their own deepwater acreage.   "Offering a nearly unrestricted supply in a low demand market with a cut rate royalty and almost no competition is bad policy and an

off Hawaii, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands.   Government offshore drilling lease data reviewed by Reuters shows the oil industry is bidding on less offshore acreage with less money than it has in years, in part because onshore reserves have become easier to tap with new drilling technology.   The average price drillers have bid for available offshore drilling leases in the Central Gulf of Mexico, for example, declined to about $300 per acre this year, from more than $700 per acre in 2013.   Even so, U.S. oil and gas production has surged because of the onshore

; Well placement poses a wide range of critical issues, such as adjusting to reservoir uncertainties and various drilling risks. To address these challenges, the technology was designed to be configurable and flexible to maximize its envelope of applications. The GeoSphere service is the first drilling technology with the sensors and frequencies that can be optimized to a specific application such as landing or navigation within a reservoir in low to very high resistivity regimes.   This translates into the maximized reservoir exposure, ability to stay in the sweet spot and the modification

Statoil Cleared to Use Cap-X Drilling Technology – for Now

A ban on Norway's Statoil using a pioneering drilling technology in the Barents Sea was lifted after a plaintiff failed to post security in a patent dispute, a lawyer said on Thursday. A Stavanger court earlier in June upheld an injunction on the technology's use, pending payment of a 20 million Norwegian crown ($2.35 million) security by privately owned NeoDrill. NeoDrill was unable to post the security due to its "very limited economic position". But it was open to finding a commercial solution with Statoil, Kyrre Tangen Andersen, a lawyer representing NeoDrill, told Reuters in an

Statoil Denies Patent Infringement, Keeps Drilling in the Barents Sea

Norway's Statoil said on Monday it would keep drilling exploration wells in the Barents Sea using what it called "regular equipment" after a court upheld an injunction in a patent dispute over specialised drilling technology.   Statoil said the Stavanger court had lifted an injunction on the use of its Cap-X technology in the Blaaman well, where drilling was suspended earlier, but had upheld a ban on the four other Arctic wells planned to be drilled this year.   When presenting Cap-X last year, Statoil said it would help reduce drilling costs. Small Norwegian firm NeoDrill said
