General Atomics Wins Contract for LDUUV Motor and ESS
(ONR) to develop a concept for integrating a unique GA-EMS motor and next generation power system into a Large Displacement Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (LDUUV). The planned systems will provide the LDUUV with power for propulsion and an energy storage system to support improved system performance necessary for future LDUUV operations.“Our energy and battery systems have been successfully demonstrated and proven safe for use on a variety of underwater manned and unmanned vehicles,” stated Scott Forney, president of GA-EMS. “Over the course of the last two years, the motor has undergone
Harvey Gulf Adds Battery Power to Harvey Champion PSV
U.S.-based offshore vessel operator Harvey Gulf International Marine has said it has converted its Harvey Champion platform supply vessel into a dual-fuel vessel. The Harvey Champion is now operating on both battery power and diesel. "The Champion now boasts 754 kWh of battery power, which will reduce harmful emissions both in port and while underway, while simultaneously reducing the vessel’s fuel burn, saving the end-user money," Harvey Gulf said Wednesday. The contract for the conversion of the vessel to a hybrid was awarded in May 2019 to GE’s Power Conversion
Kawasaki Heavy Orders Corvus' Blue Marlin Energy Storage System
Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries (KHI) has ordered the first commercial unit of a new Corvus Energy high-density lithium-ion capacitor energy storage system (ESS) Blue Marlin.According to Corvus, which plans to market the system to the offshore energy market, the Blue Marlin uses lithium-ion capacitor (LiC) cells that sustain very high charge/discharge rates of 550 C peak and 200 C continuous, enabling both energy recapture and fast discharge for high-power load handling. It can deliver beyond a million cycles with minimal capacity loss, Corvus said.Corvus Energy incorporated the LiC technology
Vard Electro Installs SeaQ ESS on Stril Barents
The Platform Supply Vessel Stril Barents was delivered from VARD to Simon Møkster Shipping in 2015. In August 2019, the vessel was equipped with Vard Electro’s SeaQ Energy Storage System (ESS) and SeaQ Shore Connection. Stril Barents is a modern duel fuel vessel, and the installation of the SeaQ ESS and SeaQ Shore Connection will ensure that the environmental impact is reduced. Fuel consumption and emissions will be significantly reduced for all operating modes. Increased security is achieved in terms of spinning reserve, response time as well as enhanced redundancy.Vard Electro was
Readyhough Joins Ecosse
Ecosse Subsea Systems (ESS) has added Andy Readyhough to the management team, charged with global business development for the ambitious Aberdeen-shire based company which specialises in seabed clearance and trenching operations in the renewable energy, oil and gas and interconnector sectors. Readyhough has joined ESS having previously held senior management positions at Global Marine Systems and DeepOcean UK. He is a master mariner with more than 35 years maritime and offshore experience and for the last 18 years was engaged in submarine cable installation, trenching and maintenance
Carousel Turns Over New Leaf for Ecosse Subsea Systems
Ecosse Subsea Systems (ESS) said it has reached an agreement with a subsea contractor to buy back its 800-ton carousel which can be deployed on a range of specialist subsea projects. Carousels are used in the storage and transportation of subsea cables, umbilicals and pipes and enable the safe deployment of equipment from a vessel to the seabed. The Carousel was originally built and used on an offshore renewables project in 2014 after ESS identified a supply chain issue surrounding the availability of carousels required for renewables and oil and gas workscopes. ESS managing
Ecosse Subsea Doubles Turnover
Ecosse Subsea, the parent company of subsea technology specialist, Ecosse Subsea Systems, (ESS) has more than doubled turnover to $37m and increased underlying earnings according to annual accounts lodged at Companies House. Financial results to March 31, 2017 show the Aberdeenshire firm, which provides a range of engineering, technical, equipment hire, fabrication and manpower services to the renewables, interconnector and oil and gas industries, ramped up turnover from $16.9m to $37m. EBITDA rose to $9.3m. ESS said the strong financial performance was a result of previous
ESS Scoops Wind Farm Boulder Contract
Ecosse Subsea Systems (ESS) informs it has deployed the offshore supply vessel (OSV) Noordhoek Pathfinder in support of a seabed clearance workscope for a wind farm project offshore northwest England. ESS said it will utilize boulder grab equipment to remove an estimated 1,700 boulders located over a 135-kilometer route in water depths up to 60 meters. The boulder grab spread will be used for displacing obstacles nearshore and in low density areas and will complement other seabed clearance operations being performed using ESS’s SCAR2 Seabed System. A survey spread onboard the vessel will
New Oilfield Comms Products from Moog Focal
Moog Focal has introduced the Quad Serial Server (QSS) module, which combines a 4-channel serial server with integrated 3-port Ethernet switch on a single 3U Eurocard to seamlessly integrate serial interface sensors with modern Ethernet-based control systems. It also enables transmission of Ethernet data over legacy serial telemetry links. The QSS has extra connectors for modular expansion, enabling the addition of more serial ports, 4-20 mA channels, and fault-tolerant CAN Bus interfaces. This product interfaces with all types of SIIS level 1, 2, 3 and IWIS compatible data interfaces.
