Writing is Thinking

week, researchers at the University of Florida found that while AI can be a valuable assistant, it falls short of replacing human scientists in many critical areas. The researchers tested how well popular generative AI models including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Microsoft’s Copilot and Google’s Gemini could handle various stages of the research process. They put these AI systems through six stages of academic research – ideation, literature review, research design, documenting results, extending the research and final manuscript production – while limiting any human intervention. TGS Kicks Off New Multi-Client OBN Project in Gulf of America

long offset ocean bottom node (OBN) data acquisition campaign in the Gulf of America. The Amendment 4 project will expand node coverage in TGS' multi-client library, adding over 1,100 square kilometers in the Mississippi Canyon, Ewing Banks, and Grand Isle South areas. The project will feature TGS' Gemini enhanced frequency source, offering lower frequency and improved signal-to-noise for ultra-long offset OBN seismic compared to conventional seismic sources. This advanced frequency source will enhance input data for TGS' elastic full waveform inversion (eFWI) algorithm, resulting in more accurate

Tritech Launches New Gemini Sonar

Subsea imaging technology provider Tritech International has launched the new dual frequency Gemini 1200id sonar, said to offer higher resolution imaging for work class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).The Gemini 1200id is built on the same platform as the industry standard Gemini 720is sonar. It features a wide 120° horizontal field of view when operating at both 720 kHz and 1200 kHz acoustic frequencies and offers improved attenuation of waterborne electrical noise for optimal imaging performance. An integrated speed-of-sound sensor ensures that targets are displayed to a high degree of positional

Gemini Offshore Wind Farm Comes Back Online

Danish subsea cable and services firm NKT has taken part in the repair of export cables at 600 MW Gemini offshore wind in the Netherlands, which has been put back to full operation.A group of cable and energy specialists, including a repair team from NKT, helped Gemini offshore wind farm with a repair during the summer. The NKT team was responsible for the jointing of the replacement cable between the wind farm and the coast.Around 900,000 households are powered by sustainable energy from the Gemini offshore wind farm. In summer 2024, the wind farm experienced a cable failure in one of the export

Outland Sells ROV With Multiple Tritech Sensors Emas Energy Services

An ROV equipped with multiple Tritech sensors has been sold by Outland Technology to the geographic survey company Emas Energy Services (Thailand) Ltd.The Outland 2500 is rated to 300m (1000ft) and uses brushless DC, magnetically coupled thrusters. It is equipped with:Gemini 1200ik: a dual frequency multibeam imaging sonar giving video-like, real time imaging, ideal for structural and seabed inspections. The Gemini 1200ik was released in 2019 and has quickly become an industry favourite for those looking for high resolution images which is also robust and rugged enough to withstand tough subsea

ROVs: Time for Renewal in the Work Class world?

. These occur usually every 10-12 years and are often also linked to technology progression, he says. In the past, that’s been about increasing reliability, depth rating and power, with uptime as a key metric. Now, TechnipFMC is looking instead at productivity, he says, the result of which is their Gemini WCROV, of which it’s operating two in the US Gulf of Mexico. Part of this is about automation. On Gemini, tool acquisition is no longer a manual piloting task, it’s an automated manipulator task, using machine vision and force accommodation, Steve Cohen, Vice President of Product Development
