SAE Deploys Upgraded Turbine at MeyGen Tidal Power Site

Tidal Energy Developer SAE said Wednesday it had deployed the upgraded 'Turbine 2' at the MeyGen tidal energy project site, located off the northern tip of Scotland.SAE said that the turbine had undergone significant upgrades to improve performance and reliability."One of the major steps was to convert the turbine to use a wet-mate connection system. This dramatically reduces costs and time for future maintenance work. This innovation has been a key development in ensuring the next phase of turbines deployed at the MeyGen site are the most advanced and deliver the best performance in the

for the turbines at Med Wind, a floating offshore wind farm project in the Mediterranean.Seas will deploy its robotic seafloor drill and cone penetration testing up to 40 meters below the seafloor, in water more than 900 meters deep, to acquire geotechnical information about geohazards at the project site in the Sicily Channel. The work will enable Renexia to define and design the most appropriate seabed anchoring systems for the turbines and ensure maximum attention to the surrounding ecosystem.Med Wind will be built gradually in stages, reaching a full installation of up to 190 turbines capable

at the same time," Ocean Infinity said.Ocean Infinity used its Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) with geotechnical and seismic equipment based from one surface vessel. "The successful completion of this project, which was all done from one vessel and on a single cruise out to the project site, is a major breakthrough in maximizing efficiency on sub-sea survey operations," Ocean Infinity said. The 28-day project was carried out from the host vessel ‘Normand Frontier’ using Ocean Infinity’s technology, during which the company conducted 2D Ultra High-Resolution

WindFloat Atlantic Platform Heads Offshore

The second of the three platforms for the WindFloat Atlantic project has left the Port of Ferrol for its final destination 20 kilometers offshore Viana do Castelo, Portugal.Upon arrival to the project site, it will be installed next to the first floating platform, which has the exact same dimensions: 30 meters in height and with a 50-meter distance between each column. The third and final platform, once it arrives to the site, will complete the first floating offshore wind farm in Continental Europe.Transportation of the three WindFloat Atlantic floating structures is a milestone in itself, as it

Vestas Tidal Wind Solutions for Vietnam

Danish manufacturer Vestas Wind Systems has developed a customized solution for a 50 MW intertidal project in Bạc Liêu Province, Vietnam for the local EPC construction company Bac Phuong JSC, using onshore wind technologies to harvest wind resources from the sea.The intertidal project site is covered in water at high tide and some of the turbines will be uncovered at low tide, said a press note from the sustainable energy solutions provider.Working closely with the customer to overcome the complex operation of planning and executing an intertidal project, Vestas will supervise the installation

shortly; and NMFS has proposed to issue a one-year extension of an Incidental Harassment Authorization (IHA) to Vineyard Wind, LLC, allowing Vineyard to harass certain marine mammals pursuant to the Marine Mammal Protection Act due to the presence of migrating whales, seals, and dolphins near the project site that could affect the hearing of these species during the pile-driving phase for installation of the generators and electrical service platforms. In an April 30, 2019, Federal Register notice (the comment period closed on May 30, 2019), NMFS proposed extending a year-long IHA to Vineyard for this

Subsea Cables Installed for NASR Phase 2

10 11-kilovolt subsea power cables (total length 57 kilometers) for the NASR oil field project, part of the ADNOC strategic development program to increase the field’s capacity to 65,000 barrels per day.A total of 204 kilometers of cable was loaded in Norway, and transported and installed at the project site in two separate trips with the cable laying vessel Isaac Newton. The vessel's carrying capacity allowed the longest and heaviest of all 13 cables, being the 71 kilometers long and almost 6,000 tons heavy, to be installed in a single length between Das Island and the NASR field. The vessel capability
