AXYS Technologies Inc. announced the sale of its 100th WatchKeeper met ocean monitoring buoy to Construtora OAS S.A. (OAS) for an LNG project in Uruguay.

OAS will use the WatchKeeper buoy to receive comprehensive environmental data, which will support their LNG terminal construction project in Montevideo. The WatchKeeper will transmit directional waves, a water column current profile, salinity, visibility, air temperature, relative humidity, atmospheric pressure, wind speed and direction and precipitation. The data will be sent to OAS offices via real-time cellular and radio telemetries.

AXYS personnel recently visited Montevideo to commission the buoy and provide system training.  The buoy will be deployed by OAS later in the spring of 2014.

Marco Aurélio, Project Manager from the Planning Department of OAS, said, “The metocean data to be provided by the buoy will be initially used in the design phase of the new LNG terminal. The asset will then be transitioned into an operational role whereby it will continue to provide real time data for terminal operations and navigational purposes, sending data to the terminal operations office as well as to mariners via the AIS transponder. This technology will be a great asset to the terminal.”
