US Navy Christens Submarine Hyman G. Rickover

;She loved her crew.”The first Hyman G. Rickover was commissioned at Submarine Base, New London, in Groton, on July 21, 1984. SSN 709 and its crew deployed 12 times until its decommissioning in December 2007. Sunken Submarine USS Stickleback Found

and placed in reserve on June 26, 1946.Stickleback was recommissioned on September 6, 1951 and served at San Diego as a training ship. It was decommissioned a second time on November 14, 1952 and converted into a Guppy IIA type submarine. Recommissioned on June 26, 1953, Stickleback joined Submarine Squadron 7 at Pearl Harbor. Stickleback supported the United Nations forces in Korea from February to July 1954 when she returned to Pearl Harbor. Phoenix SRDRS Receives Operational Readiness Certification

Submarine Rescue Team deployed on board the M/V HOS DOMINATOR July and 9-19 completed eight days of submarine rescue operations off the coast of Catalina Island, which culminated in a satisfactory Operational Readiness Evaluation (ORE) by Undersea Rescue Command’s (URC) parent command (Submarine Squadron ELEVEN) to maintain certification of the operators and equipment for independent operations. This periodic evaluation specifically certified URC and Phoenix to participate in the eighth iteration of the CHILEMAR exercise in San Diego waters and the SSN RESCUEX this fall in Alaska. Connor Joins Kraken Board

J. Connor, U.S. Navy, has joined its Board of Directors.   In a 35-year career in which he rose to the rank of Vice Admiral in the U.S. Navy, Connor commanded at the ship, squadron and task force levels. His assignments included command of USS Seawolf, a nuclear-powered attack submarine, Submarine Squadron Eight, Undersea Forces in the Western Pacific and the Arabian Gulf.   He held several concurrent titles during his last assignment; including Commander, U.S. Submarine Forces, Commander, Submarine Forces Atlantic and Commander, Allied Submarine Command. USS Key West Participates in Tri-Lateral Submarine Exercise

Rear Adm. Byus (Ret.) to Lead Battelle’s Maritime Systems Group

after a distinguished 31-year career in the U.S. Navy. His Navy experience included leadership positions in nuclear engineering, submarines, and command and control of fleet and joint forces. Byus also has served as Oceanographer and Navigator of the Navy, Commander Naval Forces Korea, Commander Submarine Squadron Seven and Commanding Officer of USS Tautog.
