OSIL Dredge Monitoring Buoy Network for Van Oord

Ocean Scientific International Limited (OSIL) supplied a network of 1.2m data buoys to offshore construction company Van Oord to monitor turbidity and dissolved oxygen levels in the location of dredging operations. A total of nine data acquisition systems have been produced for Van Oord, and the fully integrated multi-discipline data buoy networks will support dredging operations by providing continuous real-time information about the dredge plume and surrounding environmental conditions. The buoys are equipped with water quality sondes provided from Van Oord’s existing equipment pool, and relay

Maritime Risk Symposium 2024 – Great Power Competition and Gray Zone Engagement

environments.Panel 5 – Understanding Maritime Risk amidst Gray Zone ConflictFocus: Identification of gray zone activities and understanding of their risk and impact. It can be difficult to identify gray zone activities, since they are already in an undefined space. Consequently, understanding the total impact of gray zone activities, or more broadly, the total risk of potential activities in the gray zone, is a significant challenge. The panel will work through questions like: What types of risk do gray zone activities pose to the economy, international relationships, security and global balance

jumpers to be cut to the desired length, terminated, and tested onsite in Guyana, providing flexibility to the end-user. The jumpers, made of carbon fiber and PA12 polymer, will be installed at water depths over 1,600 m and will operate in the region of 10,000 psi.“This latest award brings us to a total of over 70 jumpers across three developments in Guyana’s Stabroek block. Not only is this our largest award to date, but it also means we will be terminating TCP and supporting ExxonMobil Guyana and its co-venturers for at least the next 5 years under our field service group contract,&rdquo

Artificial Submarine Curtains Won’t Save West Antarctica’s Retreating Glaciers

the continent. This means that as the ice in this region retreats, it exposes increasingly thicker ice to the ocean, causing further melting, thinning and retreat. We have known for a long time that glaciers resting on bedrock that deepens inland could undergo runaway retreat, ultimately leading to a near total collapse of the entire West Antarctic ice sheet. Collapse of the main outlet glaciers in this area would lead to more than a metre of sea-level rise. The loss of the West Antarctic ice sheet as a whole would raise global sea level by more than three metres – enough to affect major cities around
