US Shore Landing for Monet Submarine Cable
TE SubCom said it has completed the U.S. shore landing for the Monet Submarine Cable, a 10,556km cable that will connect Boca Raton, Fla. to Fortaleza and Praia Grande, Brazil, where shore landings were completed earlier this year. Monet is owned by Google, Algar Telecom, Angola Cables and ANTEL. The 100G-capable cable system will provide a low latency route from Brazil to North America with a minimum bandwidth of 60 Tbps.
Effler Appointed Business Manager, Alfa Laval PureBallast
Beginning December 2016, Kristina Effler will assist marine customers navigating ballast water treatment alternatives as the new Global Business Manager for Alfa Laval PureBallast. Effler assumes the role just as the global shipping industry prepares for the implementation of the IMO BWM Convention’s entry into force in September 2017. Effler brings 12 years of experience in various positions throughout the Alfa Laval organization.
Royal IHC wins multiple contracts for Dredgers
In the last two months of 2016, IHC saw a substantial increase in the sale of its vessels, equipment and engineering packages. Almost half of the total order intake over 2016 was secured in this period. “We see market recovery in the dredging and renewables industry, and are positive that this will continue in 2017,” says IHC CEO Dave Vander Heyde. One of the highlights of the year end includes the sale of a trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) Easydredge 2700 from stock.
Ichthys Completes Subsea Installation
INPEX has announced the successful installation completion of the complex network of subsea infrastructure and equipment to safely and efficiently extract gas and condensate from the Ichthys Field for the Ichthys LNG Project. The final laying of 49 kilometres of umbilicals and flying leads yesterday, marked the last placement of an intricate subsea network, spread across a 400 square kilometre area of the Ichthys Field, in the Browse Basin, about 220 kilometres offshore Western Australia.

Falmouth Scientific, Inc. (FSI) has launched its new HMS-624 digital CHIRP Side Scan Sonar System, offering dual simultaneous 100/400 KHz frequency operation. “A large percentage of our engineering and production teams, including VP of Engineering Fred Hegg and me, worked at Datasonics developing the first Digital CHIRP side scan sonar as well as their sub-bottom profiling systems” said FSI’s President and Chief Engineer, John Baker.
