MakaiLay Software Installed on Prysmian Cable Layer
The cable deployment control software MakaiLay was commissioned on the DP2 cable laying vessel Giulio Verne in November 2017 by the Prysmian Group. It is expected that MakaiLay with its power-cable-specific module will be used by Giulio Verne when it starts installation work for the North Sea Link between Norway and U.K., which will be the longest subsea power cable interconnector in the world upon completion in 2021.

Sir David Attenborough Lays Keel for New Polar Research Ship
U.K. shipbuilder Cammell Laird held one of the largest ceremonies in its history when Sir David Attenborough joined more than 1,000 people for the keel laying of the new £150 million polar research vessel. Construction was officially started by the world-renowned naturalist and broadcaster, after whom the ship is named, at the ceremonial event at Cammell Laird’s famous Birkenhead site in Liverpool City Region.

Predator, SeeTrackCoPilot Demonstrated at OI
SeeByte, a creator of smart software for unmanned maritime systems, and Seatronics, a rental and sales company for marine electronic equipment, demonstrated the fruits of their collaboration at this year’s Oceanology International Exhibition in London. Seafloor Systems Inks Distribution Deal with Teledyne
Seafloor Systems has signed an International Distributorship Agreement with Teledyne RESON and Teledyne BlueVew, business units of Teledyne Instruments, Inc. BlueView manufactures a variety of underwater surveying systems, including M900-2250 2D and 3D imaging sonars, and BV5000 3D Multibeam inspection sonars. RESON manufactures the SeaBat Multibeam Sonar systems, including the new SeaBat T-series (SeaBat T50-P, T20-P, and new T50-R, T20-R).

Statoil Wins licence Bids in Offshore Canada
Statoil and its partners were the successful bidders for six exploration licences in the Flemish Pass Basin, offshore Newfoundland, and two licences offshore Nova Scotia. The licences offshore Newfoundland total 1,466,918 hectares (14,670 km2), and are located in an area in proximity to the Statoil-operated Bay du Nord discovery. Statoil will operate five licences, and participate in one licence as a partner.

AXYS to Consult Virginia Offshore Wind Project
AXYS Technologies Inc. said it has been chosen by the Timmons Group as a member of their team recently awarded a research project funded by the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) to explore new methods of metocean and offshore environmental monitoring.
