US Navy Deploys a Fleet of Saildrones to the Caribbean

Commercial operators began deploying 10 Saildrone Voyager Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) out to sea, a critical first step in U.S. 4th Fleet’s Operation Windward Stack.Launched from Naval Air Station Key West’s Mole Pier and Truman Harbor, the Saildrones’ mission once on station is to improve maritime domain awareness, or MDA, by detecting and quantifying targets that pass within range of the Saildrones’ sensors.Operation Windward Stack is a long-term operation of unmanned and manned forces working together, also known as a hybrid fleet, as envisioned by the Secretary of the

US Navy Recovers Lost Fighter Jet from the Bottom of the Mediterranean Sea

The U.S. Navy said it has retrieved a fighter jet that was lost from an aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean Sea last month. The F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft, which blew off the deck of the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) in "unexpected heavy weather" on July 8, was recovered by a team from Task Force (CTF) 68, Naval Sea Systems Command's Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV), Harry S. Truman, Naval Strike Fighter Wing Atlantic, and U.S. Sixth Fleet embarked on the multi-purpose construction vessel (MPV) Everest."Inherent to Task Force 68 is our ability to adapt to any mission set

Armach Robotics Launches Its First Hull Service Robot

.Armach said that the robot is a disruptive technology in hull cleaning, being man-portable at under 66lbs (30kgs) and around 34 inches (86cm) long, greatly reducing deployment costs and increasing convenience. The robot was recently launched for its first in-water trials at Plymouth, Massachusetts.James Truman, Armach’s VP of Engineering says: “My favorite job in this industry is working on next-generation systems. The team learns so much in the development and testing of a product for a new application but once a vehicle is sufficiently functional then the pace of design evolution slows dramaticall

has been in the industry a long time and I've always thought the world of him as sales and business development. He knows everybody in the industry; he knows the trends in the industry. He knows the industry from the robotics side, so, I brought him in as Vice President of Growth and Strategy.James Truman is our VP of Engineering. James and I have worked together since the early to mid-2000s, he and I were in graduate school at Johns Hopkins together. He was a chief engineer at Teledyne Webb, and James and I have built a lot of robots almost two decades. And when we started doing the hull robotics

in the world to run highly integrated ROVs and robotic systems from Unmanned Surface Vessels. Greg’s understanding of the military’s CONOPs, and his ability to dig into a program’s details, made him the perfect candidate to help us meet our goals for this system,” said James Truman, VP Engineering, Greensea

. One of my favorite examples is the RNAV2 navigation and control system. You take Greensea’s RNAV2 system, add it to the STIDD Diver Propulsion Device (DPD), and it becomes an underwater smart car for special operation forces (SOF).”“Karnveer has excellent skills," said James Truman, VP of Engineering, Greensea. "His first project was to develop a compass calibration application. He did a nice job on the algorithm and the application quickly became a part of the OPENSEA system.” Karnveer pointed out, “I love data analysis, so it was fun to get the logs, process

Greensea Expands, Again

Greensea recently added key personnel to its engineering team in its Plymouth, Mass., office to support their hull robotics program.  James Truman, Senior Robotics Engineer, is leading the development of Greensea’s latest technology, a hull crawling robot with precise hull-relative navigation and autonomy capabilities. Assisting James on the hull robotics program is Sam Fladung, Robotics Engineer.“James is one of the best engineers I know. I first met him at graduate school and then worked with him at Phoenix International,” said Greensea CEO, Ben Kinnaman. “We have built

President of Reservoir Development Services. “By understanding the critical reservoir properties we’ll be able to recommend and engineer a development plan to help maximize profitable recovery.” RDS will also evaluate IOG’s future prospects and discoveries in the SNS including, Truman, Harvey, Hambleton, Tetley and Rebellion.  The companies intend to expand the relationship beyond the evaluation phase to other services that Baker Hughes could provide for field planning and development. The extended agreement comes after IOG commissioned RDS to complete a remapping project

Middle East Maritime Security: Cooperation is the Key Vital

in Afghanistan through 2014, Miller reminded the attendees that maritime forces still have a role in the skies above the combat zone.  “I think it’s a fairly lesser-known fact that from the maritime component standpoint we continue to support Operation Enduring Freedom.  The USS Truman is off the Makran coast [of Pakistan] right now, and they fly somewhere between 20 and 28 sorties a day in support of the mission in Afghanistan.   When we fly in support of that mission, we do provide about one third of the air support in support of the coalition troops that are on the
