Deadline for Offshore Achievement Awards Approaches

Businesses have only four weeks left to enter the Offshore Achievement awards, organized by Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Aberdeen section with the support of principal sponsor, TAQA.

The awards, which are open to U.K.-registered companies operating in the renewables or oil and gas industries, are open until Monday, December 2, 2013.

Entries are being sought for the eleven categories which recognize and celebrate the very best the industry has to offer, from new technologies and safety innovations to exemplary company and individual performance.

Responding to industry feedback from last year, SPE Aberdeen has introduced two new categories for 2013. The ‘Inspiring Leader’ award recognizes someone who has inspired a team or organization as a manager or in a mentorship capacity, and the ‘Environmentalist’ Award recognizes outstanding environmental technology developed for and deployed in the offshore energy industry.

Ian Phillips, director of business consultancy Pale Blue Dot Energy Limited and the SPE board member responsible for organizing the OAAs, said, “The Offshore Achievement Awards are an excellent platform for businesses and individuals to showcase the valuable contribution they make to the renewables and oil and gas sector.

“There has already been considerable interest in this year’s event so far, so we urge as many interested businesses and individuals as possible to ensure their entry is submitted by the 2 December deadline.”

Winners at the 2013 awards ceremony included Graham Skinner, trainee rig manager at KCA Deutag Drilling. Graham received the Young Professional accolade for demonstrating an exceptionally proactive approach to his work, developing a number of initiatives which have been implemented across the company and playing a major role in mentoring new graduates joining KCA Deutag Drilling.

Malcolm Webb, chief executive of Oil & Gas UK, received the Significant Achievement Award in recognition of decades of work with UK government and industry bodies to establish the long-term future of the oil and gas sector.

Johannah Bisset, founder and managing director of WEB Rigging Services and winner of the Emerging Technology category in 2013, said, “As a young company, to be shortlisted alongside established and pioneering companies was a great achievement and to go on and win was excellent recognition for our team and the work we do.

“Winning the award certainly helped us to stand out. Securing industry recognition has helped us instill an even greater level of confidence in our products amongst our current clients and helped us attract attention from new clients, not just on a local level, but internationally too. The awards have definitely benefitted my business and I would recommend others to enter.”

Last year’s awards ceremony attracted a record attendance of more than 530 industry professionals.

The Offshore Achievement Awards are open for entries until December 2, and will be held at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Center on March 20, 2014.
