Environmental Innovation Award to Volvo Penta

Volvo Penta´s marine drive system IPS has been awarded Best Innovation 2012 by the International Powerboat Association (UIM).

The Inboard Performance System (IPS) by Volvo Penta is a pod system for leisure boats and with more than 15,000 units delivered since the introduction in 2005, the IPS system is the undisputed world market leader in the pod segment .

The IPS system brings many benefits to the boating world, not least in terms of environmental features. Compared to traditional shaft installations, boats powered with the IPS system can reduce fuel consumption up to 30% and also achieve significant reduction in noise levels.

The Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) annually awards engine manufacturers and boat builders in order to inspire and recognize excellence in innovation and development of environmentally-friendly technologies.

This year, UIM recognizes Volvo Penta´s introduction of the Inboard Performance System. Thanks to the environmental features of the IPS system, Volvo Penta receives an UMI award for Best Innovation 2013.

The award was given to Volvo Penta at the annual UIM Awards Giving Gala in Monaco on February 23, 2013.
