OceanWorks International says it has completed the delivery of a spare node base and two node pods to Harris CapRock Communications (HCC) in support of the ongoing operation and maintenance of CSnet International’s Offshore Communications Backbone (OCB) system.

The OCB subsea infrastructure, including five seafloor nodes which form the existing seafloor observatory portion of the system, was originally designed by OceanWorks International. The system, deployed in 3000m of water in the Mediterranean Sea during the fall of 2010, has been providing scientists with real time data from sensor installations covering several hundred kilometers of the seafloor.

The additional node base and node pods take full advantage of the upgradability designed into the system and allows the incorporation of improvements over the 25-year lifespan of the network.
