Romica Engineering Supports Chinese Research Vessel

Romica Engineering Ltd (REL) have signed a contract with Geo Marine Technology Co. Ltd China to provide a Conductivity, Temperature, Depth (CTD) launch and recovery system (LARS) to The Second Institute Oceanography (State Oceanic Administration) China.

 

This system provides the capability of 10,000m of 8mm electro-mechanical cable with a SWL of 4 tonnes. Designed in accordance with DNV Rules for Certification of Lifting Appliances 2011 and UNOLS Research Vessel Safety Standards Revised March 2009 the system will be mainly used on the scientific research vessel Xiangyanghong 10 worldwide.

The fully integrated CTD LARS is designed on the same footprint as a standard 20ft ISO container, and has deployment A frame, heave compensated traction winch and hydraulic power pack, providing 95% elimination of heave disturbance, keeping the CTD system in the required subsea position.

REL was founded in 2003 to provide payload welfare to the oceanographic and offshore oil & gas sector. Romica supports companies undertaking subsea measurement, monitoring and IRM (Inspection Repair Maintenance) tasks through a range of services, tools and equipment solutions.

Bob Turner, Managing Director of REL said: “We are delighted that the Second Institute Oceanography (State Oceanic Administration) have selected Romica to support their LARS requirements. This contract for the supply of a fully integrated LARS solution allows the Second Institute Oceanography (State Oceanic Administration) to provide a proven heave compensated system to make the most of the available time on site.”
