Bolidt Equips Award-Winning Ferry Stavangerfjord

Dutch marine deck and floorings specialist Bolidt has added the award-winning cruise ferry Stavangerfjord to its list of passenger ship references. The Fjord Line ship was delivered by the Bergen Group Fosen yard in Norway.

The environmentally-friendly vessel is the first cruise ferry to be powered purely by LNG, and its major contribution to energy efficiency was recognised at Nor-Shipping in Oslo in June with the first Energy Efficiency Award.

Bolidt’s innovative, lightweight decking systems are making a direct contribution to Stavangerfjord’s fuel-saving attributes. Decks 7, 9 and 10 - the top deck - include Bolidt decking on both external and interior areas, in the form of Bolideck Future Teak, Bolideck  Select Soft and Bolideck  Select Soft Teak Effect.

Bolideck Future Teak is a sustainable, lightweight and highly cost-effective alternative to teak, with the added advantage of reduced installation time, Bolidt said. It is safe in both wet and dry conditions and is a popular choice for environmentally-conscious shipowners. Bolideck Select Soft Teak Effect’s durable teak-like finish is anti-skid without being rough-textured and it is easy to clean, the company added.

The 170m long Stavangerfjord entered service in early July, connecting Bergen and Stavanger and on to Hirtshals in Denmark. A flexible interior design provides capacity for 1,500 passengers and 600 vehicles, while 306 cabins offer first class accommodation.

Bolidt is to supply the same decking materials to a sistership, Bergensfjord, which is under construction at Bergen Group Fosen and is due to be launched towards the end of 2013.
