OPT Launches Subsea Battery

U.S. based ocean energy technology developer Ocean Power Technologies has launched a tech called the Subsea Battery solution for offshore installations.OPT said that the lithium-iron-phosphate battery system with a nominal storage capacity of 132 kilowatt-hours provides uninterruptable power for offshore installations requiring electric power, backup, or emergency power for short term missions.The subsea battery, according to OPT, is scalable with multiple units to meet higher energy needs and can be used in combination with OPT's PowerBuoy technology. Eni Taps OPT PowerBuoy for New MissionOPT&

Ocean Power Technologies Launches Hybrid PowerBuoy

Ocean Power Technologies, an ocean energy technology developer, has expanded its offering with the latest product called the hybrid PowerBuoy.The hybrid PowerBuoy is a buoy that offers remote power for subsea and topside applications, data communications, and a nominal 1.5-megawatt-hours of energy storage. While OPT is known for its moored floating buoys - such as OPT PB3 PowerBuoy - that harvest and store wave energy, this buoy is a hybrid, meaning it doesn't necessarily depend on waves to generate power, as it utilizes solar panels and a Stirling backup engine to power topside or subsea

US Patent Approval for Wave Energy

AW-Energy Oy, a Finnish wave energy technology developer, received an “approval” for AW-Energy’s patent application from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).The patent [PCT/050485] provides AW-Energy with broad IP protection of its latest generation WaveRoller device including a range of operating improvements made to the device’s system and infrastructure, particularly on fail safe operating improvements to protect against extreme weather conditions.“This is a significant and exciting decision by the USPTO, and we view this announcement as recognition

Ecosse IP Trials Subsea Lifting Tech

Sonardyne Acquires Chelsea Technologies Group

Subsea technology developer Sonardyne International Ltd. said it has acquired maritime and marine science technology specialist Chelsea Technologies Group Ltd. as part of a long-term growth strategy that includes market diversification.In acquiring Chelsea (also known as CTG), Sonardyne said it looks to strengthen its presence in the maritime, marine and ocean science sectors and create new opportunities in the water environmental, defense and process control markets. Sustainable Marine Energy’s Inshore Platform PLAT-I Powers Up

Hydro Group Completes MeyGen Contract

Aberdeen-based subsea cable and connector specialist, Hydro Group has completed a contract with technology developer and supplier of tidal turbines, Andritz Hydro Hammerfest (AHH).
