Fincantieri to Build New Norwegian Polar Institute Ship
The ship will be named “Kronprins Haakon”, in honour of the heir to the Norwegian throne and will be built in Italy in the Fincantieri integrated shipyard in Riva Trigoso-Muggiano, before undergoing final outfitting and sea trials in Norway at VARD – a member of the Fincantieri Group. The new vessel, designed by Rolls Royce Marine, is due to be launched in the second half of 2016, and to be fully operative from the beginning of 2017.
ROVOP Starts 2014 with Further Growth
Subsea specialist ROVOP has expanded its fleet of remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) by taking delivery of four new hydraulic work class systems with a further four new ROVs expected later in the year. The company has invested $20 million in the four hydraulic Schilling HD work class ROVs, which were delivered during January, and is actively working to grow its offshore team by 50 to 110 to expand its provision of best in class ROV service to the oil and gas industry.

Dutch Government Picks Panther from Bluestream
For wreck removal, security and waterway maintenance, the Dutch Government chose the Saab Seaeye Panther XT Plus ROV. This followed a year-long evaluation of ROV manufacturers using European Union tendering rules. Subsea operator Bluestream, drove the bid and have gone on to boost their existing fleet to 16 Saab Seaeye vehicles with the purchase of their own two Panther XT Plus, along with three additional Tigers, in an ROV investment plan for 2014 worth over £4million.

Staten Island Ferry LNG Conversion Planned
Plans are in hand to convert one of the two diesel oil-fuelled 'Austen-class' ferries to use Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). A pilot program conducted on one Staten Island Ferry, if successful, could save the city nearly half the boat's fueling cost annually, reports the 'Staten Island Advance'. An unspecified Austen Class ferry will be converted from using ultra-low-sulfur diesel to liquefied natural gas (LNG) during a routine dry docking in 2013.

Plans for a giant wind farm off the coast near Brighton advance as developer E.ON submits initial planning application to the Government. ABB Takes Stake in Tidal Power
ABB has led a $12 million investment in Scotrenewables Tidal Power, (of Scotland), a provider of tidal turbine systems. The funding is being used specifically to roll out a larger and more advanced tidal energy conversion system known as the SR2000. EMAS Wins Statoil Contract
EMAS AMC, the subsea services division of EMAS, a global offshore contractor and provider of integrated offshore solutions to the oil and gas industry, announced today that it has won a contract from Statoil for the transport and installation of subsea templates for the Norwegian Sea’s deepest offshore project – the Aasta Hansteen field development.
