Liquid Robotics Names Nightengale CFO
Caryn Nightengale, former Director of Corporate Development for Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), has transitioned from her role at Boeing to join Liquid Robotics as Chief Financial Officer. In her new position, Caryn is responsible for the financial management, information technology, contracts and Global Trade Controls (GTC) departments. She will report directly to Gary Gysin, President and CEO.
Discovery of New Rock Property Earns Prize
The discovery of a new fundamental rock property will improve estimates of underground resources, such as hydrocarbons and drinking water, as well as CO₂ storage reservoir capacity. The revelation that electricity can flow more easily through sedimentary rocks in the vertical, rather than horizontal, direction is contrary to established scientific wisdom. This finding will improve the interpretation of geological fluid flow from geophysical surveys.
Study Reveals US Atlantic Margin Methane Seep Expansion
A study conducted by Mississippi State University researchers, the U.S. Geological Survey and other institutions, reveals that the natural methane leakage from the U.S. Atlantic margin seafloor extends beyond prior knowledge gathered on the issue. Methane plumes identified in the water column between Cape Hatteras, North Carolina and Georges Bank, Massachusetts, are emanating from at least 570 seafloor cold seeps on the outer continental shelf and the continental slope.

Self-Pilot Personal Submarine to Launch in Monaco
DeepFlight announced it will introduce a new type of personal submarine at the 2014 Monaco Yacht Show. The company said its new product, the DeepFlight Dragon, is the most compact, lightweight personal submarine on the market, and is so intuitive to use that clients self-pilot the craft with minimal instruction. The all-electric (zero emissions) DeepFlight Dragon was designed specifically for easy use from yacht or shore to explore the twilight zone down to 400 feet (120 meters).

UTEC Geomarine Announces BP Quad 204 Geotechnical Survey Success
UTEC Geomarine has announced the successful completion of a significant geotechnical survey program in the West of Shetland region. The work was carried out for BP on their Quad 204 development and involved the utilization of UTEC Geomarine’s unique and innovative ROV-deployed geoROV™ CPT and sampling system. Topside-less Solution for Subsea Boosting
Voith and Funglesangs Subsea AS (FSubsea) signed a collaborative agreement to develop hydrodynamic variable speed drives for advanced subsea pump applications. Due to a Voith torque converter integrated in the pump on the sea floor, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) on topside will no longer be required for speed control. The system reduces CAPEX investments by up to 70 percent and saves several hundred tons of topside equipment, making subsea boosting economical already at an early stage.
