A new name in advanced subsea equipment supply is being unveiled at Subsea Expo on February 5, 2014.

Great Yarmouth-based Sonar Equipment Services will now trade under the name of Subsea Technology & Rentals (STR) to better reflect the broader range of products and associated services they now supply to the subsea sector following a restructure and significant investment in premises, people and equipment.

The name change is part of a global growth strategy which aims to see the company double in size in the next few years. STR has made several investments in its research and development capability, a new building with larger workshop area and new test facilities. The company is currently looking to recruit ten technical and sales support staff with more jobs to be created as the company opens in new overseas regions.

Neil Jackson, Sales and Operations Manager for STR said, “In recent years we have invested heavily in subsea technology to offer a first-class rental service and in developing our dedicated engineering team to carry out research, design, manufacture and delivery of integrated technical solutions. With a heritage in towed sonar equipment, we have built on our reputation for delivering quality by diversifying our surface to subsea technology and incorporated services. The new name and branding better reflect our capabilities and vision for the future.”

After nearly 20 years of operating within its original premises, STR has moved into a modern, purpose-developed building in a riverside location at Gorleston-on-Sea. The new building has over 15,000 square feet of workshops fitted-out with the latest test facilities to maintain, configure, repair and customize rental equipment for bespoke requirements.

The new premises also have a dedicated production department to manufacture a range of products designed in-house and to provide a service centre for EdgeTech sonar products. STR operates a range of specialist in-house facilities including an acoustic test tank, pressure test chamber and, due to growing demand, a fiber-optic cable molding facility has been created to offer customers a one stop solution for custom cable requirements.

STR is aiming to rapidly become the preferred global rental specialist to support offshore survey, subsea construction, IRM as well as the marine renewables sector. The company can now compliment their equipment supply with skilled offshore engineers to attend vessel mobilizations and support worldwide operations.

Through partnerships with manufacturers and other suppliers, such as EdgeTech, Innova and Neptune Oceanographics, STR provides sales as well as rental services and is well positioned to provide procurement guidance for a range of subsea technology.
