The online course in the 2013 DesignRealized Adaptive Reuse and Renovation Continuing Education Series, is scheduled for Tuesday, July 23, at 12pm Pacific/3pm Eastern.  Speaker Paul Woolford, AIA, LEED AP, with HOK, will demonstrate how and why the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii is one of the most environmentally innovative national historic landmarks in the U.S.

This Pacific Regional Center provides 400,000 sq. ft. of contiguous space for a diverse range of functions including the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the National Weather Service, and marine research. It is considered one of the most environmentally innovative national historic landmarks in the U.S. Some of the high performance design features include hydronic passive cooling and ventilation supported by a seawater well in addition to the absence of mechanical fans.

“Paul Woolford is a recognized industry leader,” says Thomas M. Simmons, curriculum developer. “He lectures around the world on environmental and design issues for organizations including USGBC, AIA, SCUP, ULI and Living Futures. ”
HOK is a global design, architecture, engineering and planning firm with 24 regional offices on 3 continents. For six consecutive years they were recognized by the AIA on their “Top 10 Green Projects List.”
