Kongsberg Delivers Simulator Upgrades
The Simsea AS maritime training center in Haugesund, Norway, has chosen Kongsberg Maritime to support the extension of its offshore simulation facilities with new simulators and significant upgrades to existing simulators. AXYS to Consult Virginia Offshore Wind Project
AXYS Technologies Inc. said it has been chosen by the Timmons Group as a member of their team recently awarded a research project funded by the Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) to explore new methods of metocean and offshore environmental monitoring. Governor Terry McAuliffe announced on March 26, 2014 that the Timmons Group proposal was one of the four successful responses to the DMME request for proposal (RFP).
Drydocks World Repairs NDC Drilling Rig
Drydocks World, an international service provider to the marine and maritime sectors including to the oil and gas and energy industry, announced the completion of major repair and refurbishment of National Drilling Company’s (NDC) jack up drilling rig Al Ittihad. The company said it has carried out maintenance work on several of NDC’s rigs, and the numbers have increased over the years: Drydocks World received four orders in 2013 to add to the eight projects completed previously.

NOAA Expands Water Level and Wave Dataset
The first modeled, historical water level and wave dataset for the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf coasts was released on January 13 by NOAA's National Ocean Service (NOS).The dataset, known as Coastal Ocean Reanalysis (CORA), delivers more than 40 years of modeled, historical water level and wave information every 500 meters (roughly every quarter mile) along the U.S. coastline. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $25 million in funding to support increased research, development, and demonstration of technologies that harness wave power to create electricity. Demand for Greater Lift Capabilities Calls for Subsea MacGregor Crane
MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has won a contract to deliver a 250-tonne SWL active heave-compensated (AHC) subsea crane for the 120m construction vessel, Island Intervention. The crane was ordered by Marine Procurement Ltd, part of the US company Edison Chouest Offshore. An existing vessel operated by the US / -Norwegian partnership between Edison Chouest Offshore and Island Offshore requires greater lifting capability; a MacGregor 250-tonne SWL AHC subsea crane fulfils the upgrade requirements.

All seagoers know the ocean moves. Some thrive on riding the wind and waves while some hang on and look for a rail downwind with a bit of green in their face. But measuring the movement of the water, or of objects through the water, is a key aspect of many ocean technologies and applications. It is possible to use a principle of sound waves called the Doppler effect to measure motion in water. A sound wave has a higher frequency, or pitch, when it moves to you than when it moves away.

New Gavia AUV: Operational in Batam
In January 2013 PT Java Offshore (Indonesia) completed the final training course on the operation and data processing for their new Gavia Surveyor Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), supplied by Teledyne Gavia (Reykjavik Iceland), a Teledyne Technologies Company, enabling full field operation. This is the first delivery of a fully capable, lowlogistics survey AUV into the offshore markets in the South East Asia region.
