OTC Names Technology Award Winners
The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), which takes place May 4-7 in Houston, has announced 17 technologies that will receive the Spotlight on New Technology SM Award. The 2015 awards will be presented May 4, in the NRG Center Rotunda Lobby. The Spotlight on New Technology Awards—a program for OTC exhibitors—showcase the latest and most advanced hardware and software technologies that are leading the industry into the future.
SubCom Supplies Undersea Communications for OSI
TE SubCom, a TE Connectivity Ltd. company was contracted by Ocean Specialists, Inc. (OSI) as the supplier of the Poseidon project, a high-capacity undersea cable system that will enable advanced communications for the oil and gas industry in the Eastern Mediterranean region. Designed to deliver communication to an active region for oil and gas production, Poseidon will be owned and operated by Radius Oceanic Communications, Inc. (Radius), a wholly owned subsidiary of OSI.
In Rhode Island, the Future is Blowing in the Wind

Sabertooth AUV Goes 4D in Lake Vättern
For offshore operators, a 4D geo-spatial data acquisition system with data visualization in real-time is now available for the Seaeye Sabertooth AUV. Its full capabilities were demonstrated to representatives of 12 companies from seven countries, together with the Danish Navy, in Saab’s exclusive underwater test center at Lake Vättern, Sweden. The system has been configured for the Sabertooth by Saab QPS, a Saab Seaeye partner and developer of hydrographic survey and mapping software.

DST Toolstring Deployed in Gulf of Mexico
International oilfield services company, Expro, has deployed its new design ExACT (Expro Annulus-Operated Circulating and Test Tool) in its first live offshore well. The successful operation, a tubing conveyed perforating ‘shoot and pull’, took place on the Vermillion field offshore in the Gulf of Mexico following trial work onshore in Brazil last year. The tool, one of the most advanced of its kind, combines downhole shut-in and circulating functionality.
Navy Christens, Launches New Oceanographic Survey Ship
Accompanied by azure blue skies and a stiff breeze, the Navy christened and launched its newest oceanographic survey ship, USNS Maury (T-AGS 66), the last of its class at VT Halter Marine’s shipyard in Moss Point, Miss., in a traditional Navy ceremony on March 27. The 350-foot ship is named for Cmdr. Matthew F. Maury, considered to be the father of oceanography, nicknamed the “Pathfinder of the Seas” and the first superintendent of the U.S. Naval Observatory.

A new diesel generator simulator has been delivered to Pearl Harbor naval facilities by the TechSolutions program at the Office of Naval Research (ONR), officials at ONR announced March 18.
