Shell Advances Peterhead Clean Energy Project
Shell has signed an agreement with the U.K. Government to progress the Peterhead Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project to the next phase of design. The project, led by Shell, with strategic support from SSE, owners of the Peterhead gas power station in Aberdeenshire, aims to capture10 million metric tons of CO2 over 10 years. This will generate enough clean electricity to power the equivalent of 500,000 homes a year.

Fugro Wins 3-Year Offshore Malaysia Positioning Contract
Fugro informs it has been awarded a contract for three years, plus a one-year extension option, by Murphy Sabah Oil Co., Ltd. for the provision of rig and subsea positioning services offshore Sabah & Sarawack, Malaysia. Fugro considers that the award will further strengthen a decade-long working relationship in support of Murphy’s deepwater drilling and development programmes offshore Sabah and Sarawak, Malaysia.
Coast Guard Seeks Comment on New Safety Training
U.S. The U.S. Coast Guard Monday, April 14, 2014, announced the publication of an advance notice of proposed rulemaking involving the possible expansion of its maritime safety training requirements to cover all persons other than crew working on offshore supply vessels and mobile offshore units. These vessels are defined as the OSVs and MOUs engaged in activities on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf, regardless of flag.
IHC Merwede Secures TSHD Order from TNPA
IHC Merwede has been awarded the contract for the design, construction and delivery of a 5,500m3 trailing suction hopper dredger (TSHD) to Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) in South Africa. General Dynamics: $17.6B Contract for Submarines
The U.S. Navy awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a contract valued at $17.6 billion for the construction of 10 additional Virginia-class submarines. Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD). The multi-year Block IV contract enables Electric Boat and its industry teammate, Newport News Shipbuilding, to proceed with the construction of two ships per year over a five-year period.
