The National Oceanography Centre (NOC), Southampton, have confirmed the order of an ASV C-Enduro.

The announcement was made at the Long Endurance Marine Unmanned Surface Vehicle Showcase at NOC on Friday 6th June.

NOC will use the USV for oceanographic data collection over extended periods of time.

The purchase comes as UK Science Minister David Willetts announces Robotics and Autonomous Systems as one of the ‘Eight Great Technologies’ to be supported by Government.

C-Enduro was initially developed under an SBRI initiated by NOC’s requirement for a long endurance USV for environmental research.

The project was co-funded by the National Environment Research Council (NERC), NOC’s parent body, with the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and the Defence, Science and Technology Laboratories (DSTL).

Designed to be at sea for long durations of up to 90 days, C-Enduro is powered by a combination of wind power, solar power and a lightweight diesel generator.
