Firstly, a Letter of Award with WesternGeco to charter the high capacity 12 streamer vessel M/V Geco Eagle for 3D multi-client projects in Northwest Europe during the 2014 summer season. The charter will begin on or before 01 April 2014 and last for three months with an option to extend for a further three month period. Expedition to Capture First 4K Images of the Titanic

A manned submersible set to survey the RMS Titanic wreck site this summer will be equipped with a range of high-tech underwater imaging equipment that will capture the first ever 4K images of the historic shipwreck. Lockheed Martin in Australian Wave Energy Project

Lockheed Martin says it has signed a contract with Victorian Wave Partners Ltd. to begin developing the world’s largest wave energy project yet. The 62.5-megawatt peak power wave energy generation project will be built off the coast of Victoria, Australia, using Ocean Power Technologies' (OPT) PowerBuoy® wave energy converter technology. The company’s PowerBuoy wave generation technology uses a "smart," ocean-going buoy to convert wave energy into low-cost, clean electricity.

Kraken Wins Offshore Wind Energy Competition

Kraken Robotics Inc. German subsidiary, Kraken Robotik GmbH, was named a winner in the Carbon Trust's Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA) competition. The OWA is a collaborative R&D program funded by nine offshore wind developers and the Scottish Government to reduce the cost of offshore wind energy. Cammell Laird to Build Polar Research Ship

The U.K. Government announced Monday that Cammell Laird in Birkenhead has been selected as the preferred bidder to build the nation’s new £200 million polar research ship. The decision follows a 12-month competitive tender process that involved bids from companies in the U.K., Spain, Norway, Singapore and South Korea. The winning project will secure jobs and apprenticeships and provide an economic boost to Merseyside, the shipbuilder noted.

GM Deep Sea Mooring Secures Det Norske Oljeselskap Contract

Navy's Global Ocean Forecast System Goes Public

Teledyne Optech Aids Study of Great Pacific Garbage Patch

Teledyne Optech said it has partnered with The Ocean Cleanup in their Aerial Expedition research mission, where the Optech CZMIL (Coastal Zone Mapping and Imaging Lidar) carried out the first in a series of low-speed, low-altitude survey flights across the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Every year, about eight million tons of plastic enters the oceans. Part of the trash accumulates in 5 ocean garbage patches, the largest located between Hawaii and California.

NOAA Releases 2018 Hydrographic Survey Plans

Beginning in April, NOAA’s four hydrographic survey ships – Thomas Jefferson, Ferdinand Hassler, Rainier and Fairweather – will set out along with private contractors to tackle their assigned survey projects over the course of the 2018 field season. North Coast of Kodiak Island – Last surveyed in 1932, this survey project focuses on areas inadequate for safe navigation, particularly along the corridor of vessel traffic transiting from Kodiak.
