Greensea Delivers Four Systems in May
Greensea Systems, Inc., a developer of software for unmanned vehicles, marked the end of a successful 18-month R&D effort with the delivery of four navigation and control systems in May. The deliveries consisted of navigation and control software suites for a standalone Inertial Navigation System (INS), a 1,000-meter rated commercial AUV, a 6,000-meter workclass ROV and a retrofit for a miniature ROV.
NYK Aims at Developing New Shipping and Logistics Solution
Tokyo-based shipping line NYK Group (Nippon Yusen Kaisha) has decided to establish a new company, Symphony Creative Solutions (SCS) in Singapore, to develop and market new solutions in the shipping and logistics fields. NYK, along with its subsidiaries, the Monohakobi Technology Institute and NYK Business Systems, has teamed up with Weathernews and Kozo Keikaku Engineering for the new venture to further the development of the Symphony Project.
Kraken Wins WHOI Contract
Kraken Sonar Systems Inc. won a $465,000 contract by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). Kraken has been contracted to deliver a deep-sea rated AquaPix Miniature Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Sonar, a Real Time Embedded SAS Signal Processor and related engineering services. Hydroid, Inc., a subsidiary of Kongsberg Maritime unveiled the new generation of the REMUS 100 AUV. The new generation REMUS 100 AUV offers advanced core electronics, a flexible navigation suite with an exclusive conformal Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) and an open architecture platform for advanced autonomy. The vehicle was created over a period of two years, and is designed based on feedback from the world’s largest AUV user community.

DP-PHINS Adds to Acoustics
iXBlue expanded the functionality of its PHINS inertial navigation system (INS) to interface with third-party acoustic positioning equipment, providing INS-enhanced acoustic data input to marine dynamic positioning (DP) systems. DP-PHINS can also take data from a range of additional sensors, some not normally associated with DP, such as Doppler velocity logs (DVL), for use in maintaining vessel position.
Thien Nam Purchases Sonardyne’s Ranger 2
Vietnamese survey company Thien Nam Positioning JSC has recently invested in its first Ranger 2 USBL acoustic positioning system from Sonardyne International Ltd., purchased through the company’s regional office in Singapore. Ranger 2 will be used to track a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) during the installation of a pipe flowline and a gas export pipeline protection mattress in an oilfield offshore Vietnam.

A 2016 Deep Submergence Training Cruise on the R/V Atlantis is being proposed to include a 2-day pre-cruise workshop July 26-27, 11 d at sea with telepresence July 28 to August 7, with HOV Alvin (5 science dives) and AUV Sentry, plus a 1 d post-cruise follow-up August 8; sailing Woods Hole, Mass. to Morehead City, N.C. Forum Subsea Continues Sonardyne 6G Investment
Sonardyne International Ltd. has received another major order for Compatt 6G transponders from Forum Subsea Rentals, a division of Forum Energy Technologies, Inc. Formerly know as DPS Offshore, this latest order brings the total value of 6G equipment purchased by the company to approximately $3 million over the past year. In addition to the Compatt 6s, Forum Subsea Rentals has also taken delivery of a Ranger 2 USBL tracking system from Sonardyne’s Asia office.
