Long-duration unmanned surface vehicles manufacturer Liquid Robotics has rolled out its next generation Wave Glider, featuring advancements to the platform’s operational range, and performance for missions in high sea states and high latitudes. Other updates include advancements for expanded sensor payloads and increased energy and storage capacity required for long duration maritime surveillance, environmental monitoring and observation missions.

US-built Survey Vessel Delivered to Fugro
Newbuild shallow draft survey vessel Fugro Americas was delivered to Fugro on March 18, 2015. WASSP Debuts F3 Widescan Sounder
New Zealand based manufacturer of Multi-beam technology WASSP Ltd has introduced its second product for 2016, and the fifth in three years: the WideScan Sounder F3. The F3 Widescan Sounder is the latest addition targeting the coastal fishing market. With the success of WASSP sales in the higher end commercial fishing fleet, WASSP Ltd said it recognized the need for a more cost effective and compact solution for the coastal fishing fleet.
Expedition to Capture First 4K Images of the Titanic
A manned submersible set to survey the RMS Titanic wreck site this summer will be equipped with a range of high-tech underwater imaging equipment that will capture the first ever 4K images of the historic shipwreck. Starting in June 2018, manned submersible services provider OceanGate Inc. will lead a group of scientists, content experts and mission specialists to explore and survey the wreck site in a series of week-long missions from St. John’s, Newfoundland.

Seatools to Supply Monitoring System for The Ocean Cleanup
Subsea technology company Seatools said it has won a contract to develop and deliver a remote offshore monitoring system that will be used to gain real-time insight into the performance of the first-ever ocean cleanup system. The contract was awarded by The Ocean Cleanup, a Dutch nonprofit developing advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans from floating plastic. The group will deploy the system during trials starting later this year on the U.S. West Coast.
Klein Marine Offers Side Scan Sonar Training

Hydroid Introduces New High Speed, Low Cost Micro AUV
Marine robotics manufacturer Hydroid Inc., a subsidiary of Kongsberg Maritime, announced the release of the new REMUS M3V compact, one-man portable autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). Low cost and ready to use right out of the box, this micro AUV supports numerous applications including search and survey; intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR); marine research; and multi-vehicle missions. The REMUS M3V can dive up to 300 meters in depth.
CGG Begins Deepwater Survey Offshore Brazil
CGG said it has commenced acquisition of a large broadband 3D multi-client survey in the pre-salt area of the deepwater Santos Basin. Santos VIII is the most recent survey in CGG’s vast ongoing pre-salt program that delivers ultramodern seismic data, enabling exploration companies to better evaluate pre-salt opportunities in advance of Brazil’s pre-salt licensing rounds. Santos VIII covers an area of over 8,000 km2 adjacent to the Peroba, Pau Brasil and Boumerangue fields.
Greensea Aids Historical Shipwreck Discoveries
The expedition crew aboard Paul G. Allen owned research vessel Petrel has continued it string of high-profile shipwreck discoveries. The crew found the USS Lexington on March 4, resting 3,000 meters below the surface on the floor of the Coral Sea more than 500 miles off the eastern coast of Australia. The discovery was quickly followed by the sighting of the USS Juneau on March 17, 4,200 meters subsea off the coast of the Solomon Islands.
Boaty McBoatface Completes First Antarctic Mission
The National Oceanography Center’s (NOC) autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) Autosub Long Range (ALR), known affectionately around the world as ‘Boaty McBoatface’, was recovered last month following its first under-ice mission beneath the Filchner Ice Shelf in West Antarctica.From January to February 2018, the AUV was deployed in the southern Weddell Sea during RV Polarstern cruise PS111 as part of the Filchner Ice Shelf System (FISS) Project – a collaboration involving leading U.K.
