Construction Milestone for RRS Sir David Attenborough
The stern section of Britain’s new polar research ship, RRS Sir David Attenborough, will be transported by barge this week from Hebburn-based shipyard A&P Tyne (Newcastle), part of A&P Group, to the Cammell Laird’s shipyard in Birkenhead. The new ship is a major U.K. Government investment in frontier science. Commissioned by NERC, and built by the world famous marine engineering company Cammell Laird Shiprepairers & Shipbuilders Ltd.
HydroSurv, Sonardyne in 'Transformative' USV Tech Collab for Offshore Industry
Uncrewed surface vehicle (USV) specialist HydroSurv Unmanned Survey has teamed up with marine technology specialist Sonardyne to develop and demonstrate what the companies say will be transformative seabed-to-shore sensing and data acquisition technologies for offshore operations.The project is part-funded by Innovate UK. HydroSurv’s REAV-40 USV will be paired with intelligent seafloor and vessel-mounted instruments from Sonardyne.
REMUS 300 Unmanned Underwater Vehicle Launched
Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) announced the commercial release of its REMUS 300, a new open architecture, small-class unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) that can dive to depths of 305 meters (1,000 feet) and has endurance options up to 30 hours.“The REMUS 300 is the most advanced small-class UUV on the market,” said Duane Fotheringham, president of the Unmanned Systems business group in HII’s Technical Solutions division.
