Teledyne Debuts New Controller and Firmware for APEX
Teledyne Webb Research has released the APF-11 controller and firmware as the new core of the Autonomous Profiling Explorer (APEX). With nearly 8,000 floats deployed during the past 16 years, APEX has long been the workhorse of the Argo Program monitoring temperature and salinity in the upper 2,000 meters of the world’s oceans. Teledyne said its engineers designed the new controller and firmware to ensure APEX continues that role for years to come.

Seatools Introduces Active Heave Compensation Module
Dutch subsea engineering company Seatools has introduced an intelligent active heave compensation module: HeaveMate, a system for new and existing offshore and subsea equipment such as winches, cranes and LARS systems. HeaveMate can be delivered either as an OEM package with the essentials for heave compensation (black box controller with sensors and software) or as part of a complete turnkey system, including mechanical and hydraulic hardware.
REP16: a Global At-sea Campaign

New Survey Catamaran for Indian Navy
The Indian navy is operating a stable research platform built around a steel-hulled catamaran. The 53.15 by 16-meter (174.4 X 52.5-foot) INS Makar has a molded depth of 4.5 meters (15 feet). Designed by the Australian naval architecture firm Sea Transport Solutions, the INS Makar, first in a series of up to six vessels, was delivered from the Alcock Ashdown (Gujarat) Ltd form from its Bhavnagar shipyard.
Kraken Scoops $9 Mln Deep-Sea Battery Contract

Forum Energy Technologies, Inc. won an order to supply the University of Limerick with a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) to support its subsea inspection and intervention work on renewable energy infrastructure. The fourth submarine in the Astute class was officially named Audacious during a December 16 ceremony at builder BAE Systems’ Submarines site in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria.
